The other day I was chatting with a fellow homeschool mom about our kids' common love of all things Minecraft. We might have unicorns here, but our kids are super motivated to complete our school work during the day so they can have a little game time in the afternoon (and Mom gets some “me” time as well).
I'll be the first to admit that video games are kind of like a foreign language to me. I waited a long time before introducing Minecraft to my kids. But now, I am continually amazed by the problem solving, critical thinking, and teamwork my kids display while “playing”.
And while my kids have wanted to take their interest in gaming even further by learning how to code in Minecraft, or even how to create their own games online…
I just don't know how to teach them how to do that myself.
Luckily, the qualified teachers at Eureka Champs do!

I love the flexibility we have in homeschooling to allow our kids to explore their interests, and take a deep dive into topics they love. And while I wish I had the time to teach all the things myself, I'm sure you can relate to being pulled in multiple directions constantly in your homeschool!
That's why I love online courses. We recently took a free class from Eureka Champs, and I thought I'd share a little bit about them with you so you can decide if they'd be a good fit for your homeschool.
What is Eureka Champs?
Eureka Champs is a Canadian company that desires to help kids build critical thinking and problem solving skills through tools and games they (probably) already know and love. They provide online coding classes for kids ages 6 to 10 years old.
In these live, interactive classes, your kids will have the opportunity to take their love of computers and gaming further by learning the basics of coding language and how to modify and develop their own games.
My son took one of their free trial classes, and really enjoyed exploring Minecraft Education Edition, which we had never used before.
Although Eureka Champs currently only provides coding classes for ages 6-10, they do plan to diversify their offerings in the future by integrating math and other coding courses for kids (Scratch, Python, Java, website creation and more). They also plan to expand to children ages 11 to 14.
What Sets Eureka Champs Apart
Small Class Sizes
With a maximum of 4 students in each class, Eureka Champs teachers can give your child the attention needed to truly learn how to code and design games while having fun in their class.
Their teachers are passionate and experienced, and provide immediate feedback to your child during the class.
Safe and Fun Environment
All teachers undergo in-person training and background checks to ensure a safe and fun learning environment for kids.
Learning by Doing
Classes are divided into projects, which kids can share with family and friends. They get to work on their projects during class and get real-time feedback.
And what you might really love? During Eureka Champs online coding classes, your kids will learn how to embrace problem-solving, critical thinking, and be creative….all while you have some “mom” time, or attend to other important homeschool-mom tasks.
This is a big blessing for busy homeschool moms!

How Much Do Eureka Champs Coding Classes Cost?
You can purchase 8-hour packages of Eureka Champs classes for $19.95 USD (1 hour = 1 class, which meets once per week).

During the free trial, you and your child will learn more about the program, the education they provide, and how it can benefit your child’s future.
In the trial class, your kids will not only begin to learn and code, but the instructor will asses your child's level of knowledge in coding, along with their interests and character.
