Each year, Earth Day is celebrated on April 22, and it's a great time to teach our kids how to take better care of the Earth.  These online Earth Day activities for kids are a great way to help children learn more about environmental issues and how we can help at home.

They are simple and educational, perfect for your homeschool lesson plans this time of year. Many of these are online games and are a fun way to learn more about recycling, reusing, and what things we can do to help the planet.

You probably teach a lot about the environment on Earth Day, but what about Digital trash? Your kids can learn how “digital trash” affects global warming, and the entire family can sign up for this yearly online event here.

Virtual Field Trip

Home Recycling Survey

Your kids can take this short recycling survey to see how well they currently reduce, reuse, and recycle…and maybe learn a better way to use their resources along the way!

Starfall – Every Day is Earth Day

With clear instructions, this short online earth day game will have children walking along the river and cleaning up recyclable materials as they go. Kids will be picking up paper, cans, and plastic and properly disposing of them in the correct recycling bin. As they go through the game they will learn how to recycle and where each type of item should go. This activity is best for young students.

NASA’s Virtual Earth Day

Celebrate Earth Day with NASA as they host part of their Earth Day celebrations event online. The celebration will be live on April 22nd and you should expect live games, talks, and chats with scientists from around the world.  It's free to register, and open to anyone!

Sesame Street Go Green Game

Younger kids can help Grover protect the earth by using Oscar’s Trash Blaster. Grover will also help kids go through different steps they can help the planet. One of the activities is to help plant Abby’s garden.

A.J’s Recycle Reuse Game

Help A.J. go through his local park and help clean it up by recycling the items people have left on the ground. Some of the items that you pick up can be reused to create new helpful items so children will have to choose whether to reuse or recycle.

The Cat in the Hat Super Cleaner Upper

Help the Cat in the Hat clean up as he jumps up and down and through the area. Kids can choose to recycle or compost the materials they find.

PBS: Break it Down

With this fun game, young kids can help Plum decompose the waste that is found in the jungle. Between the old logs, fallen fruit, and other things, kids will learn more about how things decompose.

Landfill Bill

Bill has taken control of the landfill and it’s up to you to help him clean it up. He needs to help his boss save money by recycling the material in the landfill so that he can keep his job. Each item you recycle helps him earn money.

Plan it Green

From Nat Geo Games, Plan it Green is all about turning Greenville into the greenest city ever. Kids will get a list of different tasks that need to be done in order to help the city go green.

Earth Day Drag and Drop Puzzle

With this fun online Earth Day game, kids will be dragging and dropping the items to the place where they need to go in order to help our Earth stay clean.

Earth Day Word Search

A fun online word search game for kids to play, this word search focuses on words that you would recognize for Earth Day. Just like a normal word search game, the kids will find the words within the puzzle and highlight them.

Twin the Bin

Help place the objects in the correct bin. Kids will have to choose whether to place the items in the paper or plastic bins as they learn more about recycling.

In this fun online Earth Day activity, kids will help Gus make the park a better place by sorting all the trash he finds in the area.
