Allschool Review: How Interest-Based Learning Makes Homeschooling Easy

There are so many benefits to homeschooling online these days. For our family, online classes are a big sanity-saver for me, as they help me delegate my time and also allow my kids to take specialized, interest-based courses I don't always know how to teach.

One of the recent companies we've tried is Allschool, an online platform that offers a wide range of unique, interest-based classes for kids. Immediately when you visit their website, you'll notice options from science to reading, drawing to coding, and life skills to calculation – at great prices (some as low as $5 a class!).

If you're curious what the Allschool experience is like, I'm going to share a bit more about the company, our class experience, and how you might be able to incorporate it into your own techie homeschooling.

On Allschool, you'll find a ton of live online classes for kids of all ages, from 3 all the way to 18. Expert Teachers

When you choose an online course for your kids, you want to make sure they're in the hands of a good teacher. Allschool teachers create classes and content centered around topics they are passionate about, and it's clear that they want their students to not only learn, but have fun in class!

Most of Allschool's teachers have an average of 15 years of teaching under their belts, bringing with them expertise in the field of elementary and early childhood education, as well as child development.

At the time of this post, about 80% of Allschool's teachers are based in the United States, but they continue to work to expand their team globally to provide kids with multicultural experiences and classes.

Online Safety Measures

If safety is a concern for you, know that it is for Allschool, too. They carefully review teacher qualifications through their partnership with a top-notch background screening company, to ensure your kids are in good hands during their time in class.

All teachers must pass criminal record checks, and they go through a manual verification process as well before they are allowed to teach on the platform. This definitely gave me a peace of mind as we browsed to try out our first live Allschool class.

How Online Allschool Classes Work

To get started with Allschool classes, you'll first create your account. You can add information about your kids right away, or you can add them when you sign up for your first class.

Make sure to check your email once you sign up – you'll get an invite to their VIP groups which include exclusive discounts, free printables and one-on-one consulting services.

As you browse for your first class, you can filter by time, date, age, subject, and more, which easily helps you narrow down options best for your kids.

Our Experience with Allschool

My daughter loves animals, and anything to do with them, so we decided to give the Zookeeper Training Class a try.

This particular class was taught by Tracy Horner. When looking at the class information, I learned she has taught kids from age 4 to college level, and incorporates her years of experience in wildlife rescue, zoo work, and animal rescue into her animal science classes. I loved being able to learn a bit about the teacher before deciding whether or not to try the class (the rating system is also nice, too!).

Registering for Classes

Signing up for the class was really simple. I chose a time that worked best for us from the options, and within a few clicks we were registered.

One of the things I really appreciated is the option to “request a time” for the class, if we couldn't make any of the times available. I think this is great if there is a class your kids really want to take – Allschool will try to make it happen!

This was a 30 minute class, and costs $10 for students to take. The only thing required of us was our computer and Zoom. Many of the classes use Zoom, but I noticed some are held on Classpod, Allschool's innovative online learning tool.

What Our Class Was Like

When it was time to take the class, all I had to do was log into Allschool and go to “My Classes”, then click on “Get Started”. Super easy.

There were three total kids in class (including my Emma). The class began right on time, and consisted of a mixture of live video, pictures, slides and interaction with the teacher.

Given the short time we had, the teacher did a great job sharing information with the kids. She covered the different responsibilities a Zookeeper has during their job, showed videos of Zookeepers and even live zoo footage. There was also interesting facts shared about different animals and what goes into training them at the zoo, and the teacher asked a lot of questions to the kids to keep them focused and engaged.

In 30 minutes, my 8-year old didn't leave the class as a master of zoology (perhaps my expectations were a bit high) – but she got a unique, behind-the-scenes look at a career involving something she loves. This does not necessarily happen everyday in our homeschool, but Allschool made it easy. It was fun to watch my daughter interact with new people in a safe, friendly environment, and learn some new things.

What I Love About Allschool

We really enjoyed taking the Zookeeper Training class, and can't wait to try some more (my other daughter has a few writing and history courses she has her eye on!). Here are a few of the reasons I will continue to check out what Allschool has to offer.

Interest-based learning for all ages

Allschool continues to expand on their huge selection of classes, offering a variety of different subjects and topics kids can explore to pursue their interests. It's not just anywhere you'll find courses like “Hip Hop and Dinosaurs”, “Flight School 101” or “Obedience Dog Training” alongside traditional subjects. There's truly something for everyone!

Easy & safe homeschooling option

I love knowing that Allschool vets their teachers, so I can feel safe about my kids taking these online classes. Of course, I like to remain in earshot, but – I don't need to take on all the responsibility of teaching! Plus, we don't even have to leave the house, which makes it really convenient to fit into our homeschool day.

Affordability

The classes are pretty affordable and competitive with other online options. The highest-priced course I found was $19, but some were as low as $5. The majority seemed to be around the $10 range for a one-time class.

Innovative, inquiry-based learning activities

Many Allschool teachers use Classpod for their classes, which is Allschool's own online class tool. This platform uses a lot of great features to keep kids engaged and having fun, such as a reward and polling system, in-class games and breakout rooms, and more. I love that Allschool is thinking of ways to create a more interactive and adaptive learning experience for kids.

Using Allschool In Your Homeschool

As I mentioned earlier, Allschool has continued to grow even since we took our first class. With more teachers, more time slots, and a wide variety of interest-based lessons, your kids can explore subjects they might not otherwise encounter…or you can take a much needed break from teaching while they enjoy an online class.

Here are a few ways you might consider incorporating Allschool classes into your homeschool:

• Use Allschool to help you teach subjects that are hard for you to teach (or you just don't enjoy teaching them)
• Browse Allschool when you need to take a break from your “typical” daily routine (mix it up a bit when you're feeling burned out!)
• Multi-task with Allschool: when one of your kids is enjoying an online class, you can work with your other kids if they need some extra attention.
• If your child shows a lot of interest in a specific topic, see if Allschool has a class that can further their learning.
• Need tutoring for any subject? Some Allschool teachers offer private tutoring classes, so keep this option in mind.
